The Carbonite program is designed to say that a snapshot has been completed even though it is faulty. I have had Carbonite backup and mirror for 2+ years. The mirror program would complete and give me a message that the snapshot had been completed when in reality nothing had completed. If your mirror drive should have a bad sector or develop a bad sector the mirror program will just continue... Read more

I used Carbonite 'Reimage' to load most files after formating my hard drive. The format was their suggestion. My Reimage snapshot was back dated several months, but hey . . . I could use 'Restore' to bring all my data files up to date. Right? Wrong. The recent files were deleted, overwritten or something. Then follows the 'unfortunately' schtick others report on this board. Still working... Read more

Storing data in the background seems to work reasonably well although I'm not 100% certain about that. However, if you ever need to restore files it will take days and days even for modest amounts of data. And that is if you are lucky that it works. The service as far as I am concerned is a scam. I am going back to backing up on external drives where restorations came be accomplished reasonably... Read more

I have been a victim of Carbonite for over three years. I, like many others believed their hype. Unlimited back up, easy recovery, attentive customer service, ease of use, blah blah blah. I am sound effects designer by profession. We use a triad of back up processes, one physical copy in the studio, one at an off-site location, and one on-line. To spare you all the gory details, due to employee... Read more

Carbonite said they were saving everything. My teaching videos, MRIs, EKGs, etc were all placed on the computer - the yellow dot appeared. Later the dot turned green - indicating they were saved. When I had a crash, I did a recovery, all were lost! Called the Carbonite people: They said too bad, I did not read the contract from 2 years ago - videos would be lost. I asked about the yellow and... Read more

Carbonite's PR promises full data recovery from its "cloud," but doesn't deliver. As a small business owner who has lost ten years' worth of client information and whose inventory database is now worthless, because they were unrecoverable by Carbonite, I AM ONE PISSED-OFF CUSTOMER. Mozy is involved in a similar scam; 2 years ago, they were also unable to recover my data. These people are the... Read more

I have been trying to retrieve my lost hardrive "everything" for 3 months. I can't get the *** things to download. Documents, photos, reports. They make it sound so simple on the radio. Only $55 a year. What a scam. I spent an hour with them on the phone last week after trying to get this gd stuff recovered. Nothing. Today (8/12/13) a tepid recording tells me it will be an hour before a... Read more

MAKE SURE YOUR READ THE FINE PRINT. Carbonite advertises and promotes "unlimited" backup. Which, is true, KINDA. Until you have a computer(s) whose data your wanting to backup exceeds 200GB. Oh yes, Carbonite will back up all your data exceeding 200GB, but (insert legal, small print BS here) at a rate of 1GB or LESS per 24hr period. Yeah, so for me that meant leaving my Mac on 24/7 for at... Read more
